Liyan Zhu’s practice primarily focuses on preparing and prosecuting patent applications.  He has experience in a wide variety of technology areas such as payment systems and software, authentication software, machine learning technology, image processing, drone technology, firearms technology, consumer electronic products, manufacturing systems, aerospace systems, mechanical devices, hydrocarbon extraction, automotive systems, and robotics.  He is also experienced in aiding clients ranging the gamut from solo inventors to start-ups to small and mid size businesses to Fortune 500 companies.  He takes great pride in understanding the goals and challenges of his clients and how his services fit into the big picture.

Mr. Zhu earned his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 2013.  Prior to joining Kwan & Olynick, he served as a patent attorney at the Los Angeles office of an AmLaw 100 firm and at a Bay Area patent prosecution boutique.  Prior to becoming a patent attorney, he worked as a consulting engineer helping technology companies manage products and develop new products in many different market segments.  He has also designed and built his own racecar.
